E’ arrivato in Italia p. Amelio Troietto, medico chirurgo e missionario camilliano. Si fermerà ancora qualche giorno e poi ripartirà per la missione di Dolores, nell’isola di Samar, Filippine.
Padre Amelio lavora da più di dieci anni come direttore al Poliambulatorio di Dolores.
La settimana scorsa è passato dalla sede dell’UMMI per portare un saluto e per ringraziare delle medicine che abbiamo preparato e inviato a inizio anno.
L’invio di farmaci presso la sua missione è stato importante soprattutto perché, alla fine dell’anno scorso, nel novembre del 2013, p. Amelio si è trovato nell’occhio del tristemente famoso ciclone Haiyan (in loco chiamato Yolanda) che ha provocato morte e distruzione e distrutto numerosi centri abitati. Le vittime sono state migliaia, anche se un calcolo preciso risulta impossibile. Centinaia di migliaia di persone in poche ore hanno perso tutto, dagli affetti alla casa. Le autorità hanno stimato che le persone coinvolte in qualche modo nel disastro siano stati alcuni milioni.
La stessa emergenza è stata affrontata anche dall’Opera Don Calabria, che è presente nell’isola di Samar con una casa di formazione nella città di Calbayog; qui si sono rifugiate, con le loro famiglie, migliaia di vittime del ciclone, molte delle quali ospitate e assistite dall’Opera Don Calabria.
Queste testimonianze ci danno nuovi stimoli e nuova energia per continuare con più impegno nelle nostre attività di raccolta e distribuzione di medicinali e materiale sanitario.
